Shikoku puppies born January 29, 2019.
Shown at 36 days old.
At this age the pups spend part of each day in their playpen where they divide their time between playing, nursing and sleeping. Occasionally their big sister Mika (black sesame) babysits when mom Setsuko (red sesame) is out of the playpen. Big sister Mika and big brother Kazu are always watching over the pups and often give kisses or play with their siblings through the playpen walls, sometimes moving the playpen or camera in the process.
The Shikoku Ken is a primitive hunting dog from the Japanese island of Shikoku. Bred to hunt deer and boar in remote areas of the Shikoku mountains, this tenacious and agile dog thrives with plenty of activity. When indoors, the Shikoku displays the calm reserve characteristic of the Japanese breeds. They have a strong sense of loyalty and will form a close bond with their family.
